The holiday season is upon us, bringing the familiar traffic congestion in Metro Manila. However, for MRT-3 commuters, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is offering a welcome change: extended service hours. Responding to calls from passengers, the DOTr announced that the MRT-3&rsquo;s operating hours will be extended until December 23. This means that more time for people to travel without the worry of rushing before the last train.
The new schedule will see the last train depart from North Avenue at 10:34 p.m. and from Taft Avenue at 11:08 p.m., offering a bit more flexibility for those heading out late. The usual first trip at 4:30 a.m. from the northern station and 5:05 a.m. from the south will remain unchanged.
Secretary Jaime Bautista explained that this change is all about making commuting easier during the holiday rush. With holiday festivities expected to cause heavy traffic, this extended service gives people more time to get to their destinations comfortably.
While the DOTr had previously kept its stance on maintaining regular hours, the feedback from commuters made them reconsider. With the extension in place, the MRT-3 is all set to be a more convenient option for many this Christmas season.
