Aboitiz Power, a leading energy provider in the Philippines, recently donated 300 water filtration buckets to Manila Broadcasting Company&rsquo;s Operation Tulong. The donation aims to provide clean drinking water to communities affected by severe Tropical Storm Kristine. Many areas hit by the storm are struggling with limited access to safe drinking water, making these filtration buckets a vital aid.
The filtration buckets can purify up to one million liters of water and are expected to last up to five years. Each bucket operates without electricity, using a simple hose and gravity to filter contaminants like dirt, bacteria, and protozoa. This setup is effective for freshwater sources, such as rainwater, though it&rsquo;s not suitable for saltwater or chemically treated water. Aboitiz Power hopes that these buckets will help prevent illness by ensuring access to safe drinking water in times of crisis.

Suiee Suarez, Aboitiz Power&rsquo;s Vice President for Corporate Affairs, explained the initiative in an interview with DZRH. He shared that the filtration buckets come with tools to allow installation on larger water containers, making it possible to produce even more clean water. Suarez highlighted the importance of clean water access, especially in health centers and schools that serve local communities.

This isn&rsquo;t Aboitiz Power&rsquo;s first time helping with water filtration solutions during calamities. Suarez recounted that they started distributing these buckets during Typhoon Odette three years ago, when power and water were cut off in many parts of Cebu. At that time, Aboitiz Power, through the Aboitiz Foundation, sent both bottled water and filtration buckets to affected areas, making a significant impact on public health.
The partnership between Aboitiz Power and Operation Tulong has a long history of helping Filipinos in times of need. DZRH's Mae Binauhan mentioned that the two organizations first collaborated on providing free transportation to indigent individuals. Their continued teamwork reflects a shared commitment to building disaster resilience across the country.
