<p>Steve Harwell, the former lead singer of the renowned band Smash Mouth, is currently receiving hospice care at his home, as confirmed by a representative to CBS News on Sunday, September 3.</p>

<p>During the Sunday announcement, representative Robert Hayes revealed that Harwell is battling a final-stage chronic liver failure, and it is estimated that he has &ldquo;only a week or so left to live.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Hayes expressed, "S<em>teve's iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation. Steve loved the fans and loved to perform. Although Steve is here with us still, sadly it will only be for a short time.</em>&rdquo; He added, &ldquo;<em>My only additional comment is that we would hope that people would respect Steve and his family&rsquo;s privacy during this difficult time.</em>" The representative also added that the band vocalist is being cared for by his fianc&eacute;.</p>
<p>This development comes after a prolonged struggle with various health issues, which led to Harwell's retirement from the music scene in 2021 at the age of 56. Harwell's health journey has been marked by battles with numerous health issues, including a prior diagnosis of cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease.</p>
<p>Notably, the band Smash Mouth has yet to publicly state Harwell's condition.</p>

Established in 1994, the band had Harwell as its lead singer until 2021 when he retired. The band's website indicates that Zach Goode took over as the frontman the following year.
